Unicorn Mittens, by ACCROchet

INGREDIENTS & PATTERN INFO

Hook: 5 mm

Yarn: 100g, worsted (used here: Expression Fiber Arts)

Gauge: 4 sts on wrist = 1’’ / 7 sts x 6 rounds on mitten = 2’’

Sizes: Toddler (Child-to-Teen, Adult); instructions given for smallest size, with changes in parentheses.

Abbreviations used:

ch (chain), sc (single crochet), dc (double crochet), st (stitch), sl st (slip stitch), blo (back loop only), ea (each), tog (together)

Special stitch:

scdc-tog - decrease over consecutive sc-dc: Insert hook in st, yarn over, bring up a loop; yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over, bring up a loop, yarn over, pick up 2 loops on hook; yarn over, pick up remaining loops on hook.






INSTRUCTIONS:

WRIST - Ch 7 (9, 11)

Row 1. Sc in 2nd ch and in ea ch across. 6 (8, 10) sc

Rows 2- 18 (24, 27). Ch 1, sc in 1st sc, sc blo in next 4 (6, 8) sc, sc in last sc. 6 (8, 10) sc

Finish off leaving a long tail for seaming. Sew row 1 to row 18 (24, 27) using long tail. Weave ends in.

MITTEN - With right side facing, join yarn at seam

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in ea row end. Join with sl st in 1st sc. 18 (24, 27) sc

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st, *sc in next st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 1st sc. TURN.

Rounds 3-4 (3-5, 3-6): Repeat round 2.

Row 5 (6, 7): Ch 1, sc in 1st st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st, *sc in next st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. DO NOT JOIN. TURN.

Rows 6-7 (7-9, 8-11): Repeat row 5 (6, 7).

Rounds 8-13 (10-17, 12-21): Repeat round 2.

Round 14 (18, 22): Ch 1, sc in 1st st, sk next st, 2 dc-tog over next 2 sts, *sc in next st, sk next st, 2 dc-tog over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 1st sc. TURN.

Round 15 (19, 23): Ch 1, scdc-tog around (see special stitch above). Finish off leaving a long tail for seaming.

Weave long tail through stitches of last round & pull tight to close. Weave ends in.






THUMB - With right side facing and keeping a long tail, join yarn at seam

Round 1: Working evenly along thumb opening, ch 1, (sc in next row end, 2 dc in next row end) around. Join with sl st in 1st st. TURN. 9 (12, 15) sts

Rounds 2-5 (2-6, 2-7): Ch 1, sc in 1st st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st, *sc in next st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 1st sc. TURN.

Round 6 (7, 8): Ch 1, sc in 1st st, sk next st, 2 dc-tog over next 2 sts, *sc in next st, sk next st, 2 dc-tog over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 1st sc. 6 (8, 10 sts)

Weave long tail through stitches of last round & pull tight to close. Weave ends in. Use long tail from join to close any gaps where the thumb is attached to the mitten.
