Free crochet pattern : Onion Soup Sisters-in-Law

Here's an all new free & ingenious (oh, so humble) pattern for you.

INSTRUCTIONS

This project was inspired by 2 of my students =) Here is the pattern to make your own Onion Soup Sisters-In-Law!

Ingredients :

Hook: 5 mm

Cotton (worsted weight / medium / 4). Used here : Cotton Tots.

It's super important to use cotton for this project. Acrylic could melt or worse, catch fire!

Instructions :

Step 1 : Ch 4, 9 dc in 1st ch, join with sl st in 3rd ch (10 dc)

Step 2 : 4 increase rounds (to end up with 50 dc)
  • 1: Ch 3, dc in same space, 2 dc in ea dc around, join with sl st in top of starting chain (20 dc)
  • 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join with sl st in top of starting chain (30 dc)
  • 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join with sl st in top of starting chain (40 dc)
  • 4: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join with sl st in top of starting chain (50 dc) -- do not fasten off.

Step 3 : Ch 1, hdc in next 5 dc. Fasten off & weave in ends. (Disregard the extra chains on the photo =))

Step 4 : Hood
  • 1: Ch 4, 5 dc in 1st ch, join with sl st in 3rd chain (6 dc)
  • 2: Ch 3, dc in same space, 2 dc in each dc around, join with sl st in top of starting chain (12 dc)
  • 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join with sl st in top of starting chain (18 dc)
  • 4: Ch 3, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of starting chain (18 dc)
  • 5: Ch 3, dc in next 12 dc. Leave remaining stitches unworked for now.

Étape 5 : Assembly

There are 5 stitches remaining on hood & 5 hdc on pad. You will assemble the 2 like this :
  • With hood wrong side out, and pad right side facing, work 1st remaining dc until 2 loops remain on hook, yarn over;
  • Insert hook in stitch you are working & in 1st hdc on pad, yarn over & bring back loop, yarn over and complete dc. é
  • Work next 4 dc as above.
  • Fasten off, weave in ends and turn hood right side out.
This is a super quick project to make - and a cool hostess gift (different than the usual wine bottle)*. Have your host try to guess what it is... you're sure to get at least 1 goofy answer.

*Even more so if you bring the onion soup! :P
