Crossed-stripes FREE crochet block




Yarn: Red Heart Yarns, With Love (100% acrylic, 198 g, 338 m/370 yds)



  • Colour A - White
  • Colour B - Tan


Hook: Furls Crochet 6 mm hook

Notions: stitch markers, yarn needle



Gauge: 13 sc x 9 rows (in pattern) = 4 in/10 cm



Finished size: 12 in/30 cm sides









Abbreviations:

  • Ch(s) – chain(s)
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Ea – each
  • Hdc - half-double crochet
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Sk – skip
  • Sl st(s) – slip stitch(es)
  • St(s) – stitch(es)


Notes:

  • Starting chains do not count as stitches.
  • Cut colour after each change.




INSTRUCTIONS



With A, ch 33



Row 1. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across, turn.



Row 2. Ch 2 (does not count as dc), dc in same st, 10x, dc in last st, turn. (32 sts)



Row 3. Ch 1, sc in ea st across, turn. (32 sts)



Rows 4-5. Repeat Rows 2-3 once, change to B.



Rows 6-7. Repeat Rows 2-3 once, change to A.



Rows 8-11. Repeat Rows 2-3 twice, change to B.



Rows 12-13. Repeat Rows 2-3 once, change to A.



Rows 14-17. Repeat Rows 2-3 twice, change to B.



Rows 18-19. Repeat Rows 2-3 once, change to A.



Rows 20-23. Repeat Rows 2-3 twice.



At the end of last row, finish off.





FINISHING



Crochet tip from Felted Button - optional: for a neater border, work a row of sl sts across both raw edges as follows: with right side facing, join B with sl st in sc row end, 11x. Finish off. (34 sts)



Repeat on other side.



Border: Now working around square, hdc in ea sc and sl st around, placing 2 hdc in ea corner, join with sl st in 1st hdc, finish off weave in all ends. (140 sts)
