Why should I make them? Flanken is the Esperanto word for “sideways”, which is how these crochet socks are built for maximum horizontal stretch and comfort. I love the texture created by the simple stitches – almost looks like a ladder, doesn’t it?
When will they get the most use? When you want to prove crochet socks are super comfy.
Who are they for? Pattern includes 5 adult sizes and information to customize to your foot.
Where do I start? This pattern is rated Advance beginner—you’ll need to know or be eager to learn the basic crochet stitches and techniques. You will need 100* g of fingering weight sock yarn, a 3.5 mm hook, a yarn needle and some stitch markers. Clips may be useful at seaming. Very large feet may require more yardage.
