The Black Shawl free beaded shawl crochet pattern

Crochet a beaded shawl with this free pattern. The lace-inspired design is crocheted with fingering weight yarn and a 3.5 mm hook, and decorated with glass beads. It requires knowledge of basic crochet stitches, including chain, slip stitch, and single, half-double and double crochet.

Stitch Guide

ch… chain

dc… double crochet

hdc… half-double crochet

sc… single crochet

sl st… slip stitch

st… stitch

Adding a Bead

To add a bead, pull the bead close to your hook and chain as usual. The bead will be behind your work.

eB… edge Bead (ch 1, pull up a bead, ch 2)

bB… body Bead (same, but in indicated space)

Thread the beads onto the yarn before you begin crocheting. You may want to thread only ¼ of the beads at a time, to make pulling your yarn easier. Once all the threaded beads have been used, cut the yarn, thread beads onto next yarn section, and join to work.

Pull up about 24 in (60 cm) of yarn at a time, with 3-4 beads closer to your work to pull up as needed – remaining beads will be further down the yarn.

Notes

Shawl is worked sideways, with increases at just one end. At blocking, the increase edge will become the top of your shawl.
