Guys! I have a new book review & contest for you =) I’m thrilled to be able to talk about this new book by my friend, Marly Bird. I got to meet Marly in Chicago this summer, and I am so happy I did! (Did you know that she is super tall?) she’s been on the crochet scene for so long that I was starstruck & starry-eyed.. but she is so fun and down to earth that I quickly added her to my list of favorite people.
I’m sure you’ve heard of colour pooling. Colour pooling happens with variegated yarns, as a fact of life – and sometimes we hate it… especially when we can’t control it – when it is unplanned.
But crochet is math, and so someone was going to math this problem out. And so for about a year now, we’ve known that it’s possible to use this pooling property of variegated yarns to produce gorgeous colour patterns.
This is where Marly’s book comes in.
Planned colour pooling has been around for about a year, but is not necessarily easy to pick up. This book aims to help you with this!
Published by Leisure Arts, Planned Colour Pooling Made Easy contains 8 new patterns using this pooling technique, all made with Red Heart Yarns. Marly sent me a copy of the book for review, and it totally makes me want to try to master this technique. There are gorgeous accessories included here, as well as a beautiful child’s sweater, and an elegant poncho for adults.
You can check out Marly’s YouTube channel here to find out more about planned colour pooling, and be sure to hit the rest of this blog tour in the coming days!

If you would like to win a copy of Marly’s book Planned Colour Pooling Made Easy – LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW and tell me what you LOVE the most about Marly =) 1 winner will be selected among all of the answers to receive a copy of the book! She takes a lot of time going over the best way to get the color pooling goingnright.
I love Marly’s energy in her videos. I like that she takes other designers’ patterns and does a video for them. The videos really do help some of us with our crochet.
I love how Marly is always coming up with great new ideas for crochet.
I love her teaching ability
I love her energy & bubbly personality! Her instruction videos are ready to follow & helps you to get over your crochet hurdles.
Marly provides upbeat professional video tutorials . She manages her business well so her patterns can usually be free with some economically priced. I love that she can recognize when she needs team members to serve both her followers better and maintain a family life. Her podcasts are informative fun and have introduced me to so many new aspects of the knit and Crochet community. I’m not very successful with planned pooling yet but am looking forward to trying again now that I have purchased her new book. Already have the yarn and am working on gauge for my yarn and the scarf pattern

Honestly, this is the first time I’ve “met” Marly, so I really don’t have an answer to your question. But I’ve tried PP, and it’s just not working for me, so maybe she’ll be able to help me figure it out…

I love Marly’s positivity and her passion!!
Like a lot of crafters, I’ve spent years trying to AVOID pooling and flashing with variegated yarns. I love that Marly saw an opportunity instead of a problem. And that once she had the answers, she shared them so we could all fly this this amazing Bird! Thanks for the giveaway, KittenWhiplash on ravelry.
